SPANISH CIVIL WAR WALKS: VALSAÍN & THE BATTLE FOR SEGOVIA

One of the most fascinating trips to the mountains of Guadarrama is a walk from Valsaín to the Cerro del Puerco (which translate as “The hill of the pig”). It was here that during the civil war, a terrible battle took place between the Republicans who wanted to take Segovia and Franco’s rebels who were waiting for them. The visit includes a walk in the extensive trenches that are still very well preserved. In addition to the historic interest, the views from the bunkers are stunning.

Back in Valsaín, we will visit the ruins of the palace that was once the hunting residence of the Trastamara family and later belonged to Philip II before a fire destroyed it in 1682.
